<p>Pope Leo on Sunday voiced concern over escalating violence in the Holy Land and renewed calls for negotiations on a political solution in the wider region.</p><p>Speaking during the Angelus prayer at Castel Gandolfo, the pontiff said he was following with concern the worsening violence, which he said had recently claimed many civilian lives in Gaza and the West Bank.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/world/2026/7/27/iran-says-halts-middle-east-attacks-as-us-holds-fire-0011">READ: Iran says halts Middle East attacks as US holds fire</a></div><p>Leo appealed for a return to negotiations aimed at achieving what he described as a just political solution based on equal dignity and equal rights for all people.</p><p>Turning to the broader Middle East, Leo said intensified military operations had brought renewed violence and destruction across the region, putting civilians at grave risk and exacerbating shortages of drinking water and electricity.</p><p>&quot;From the bottom of my heart, I urge all parties involved to halt the attacks and urgently reopen channels for dialogue and diplomacy,&quot; Leo said.</p><div><strong>(Production and editing: Oriana Boselli) </strong></div>
