Vanda Marie Macion Brady, ABS-CBN News</figcaption></figure></div>The Philippine government has appointed a new honorary consul to Ireland during the Philippine Embassy in London’s outreach mission in Dublin.Minister and Consul Voltaire Mauricio of the Philippine Embassy in London named Raymond Christopher Garrett as the new honorary consul last April 27.The mission in London has jurisdiction over the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.The appointment was made after the embassy invited interested parties to apply for the post on Aug. 23, 2018. Garrett is a graduate of the Liceo De Cagayan University in the Philippines and previously worked as consultant and researcher at the now closed Philippine embassy in Dublin. He also served as Director of Operations of the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Dublin for five years under the previous Consul whose post was not renewed. He was recently appointed as Commissioner for Oaths by the Chief Justice of Ireland. At the 2-day outreach hosted by Outreach Ireland, nine embassy officials and staffers who traveled from London processed 394 consular transactions, which include passport renewal, Philippine citizenship reacquisition, legalization and civil registry. Meanwhile, Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) representatives processed 24 new memberships to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).Mauricio also awarded a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Non-Resident Philippine Ambassador to Ireland Antonio Lagdameo to Solicitor Robert Emmet Bourke who has for the past two years offered great assistance to the Filipino Community.Also part of the outreach was a focus group discussion with Labor Attaché Assistant Secretary Amuerfina Reyes and OWWA Welfare Officer Connie Marquez to discuss labor issues in the healthcare, hospitality, information technology, accounting, engineering, construction and recruitment sectors in Ireland. The main issues raised by 15 professionals from the Filipino and Irish communities were the need to have a Philippine government entity in Ireland that could address work-related concerns of Filipinos there, a reliable knowledge resource center for Filipino migrant workers to help them settle and integrate in Ireland, and the institutionalization of Filipino and Irish labor policies or bilateral agreements to address skills shortages in Ireland which Filipino workers could fill. The new Philippine Honorary Consulate in Dublin at the St. John Bosco Youth Center will be open to serve the Filipino and Irish communities in the coming weeks upon the Irish government&#x27;s recognition of Garrett’s appointment.The next embassy outreach mission to Ireland will be held in the same venue on July 6 and 7.
