Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton has called Republican Donald Trump to concede the 2016 US presidential election, CNN reported on Wednesday.

CNN's Dana Bash cited sources saying Clinton called Trump as AP called the election in his favor.

John Podesta, chairperson of the Clinton campaign, earlier said Clinton will not be addressing her supporters as poll predictions show Trump on the verge of taking the US presidency.

"We're not going to have anymore to say tonight... [but] we'll have more to say tomorrow," he told the crowd at the Javits Convention Center in New York.
