They might have come from different walks of life and have started their careers in different timelines, but the universe had its mysterious way of intertwining the paths of Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada, who are now among the headliners of the ABS-CBN afternoon drama Pira-Pirasong Paraiso.

And in the span of almost two years, they have managed to become one of the phenomenal loveteams of their generation, and is even dubbed as the “hottest musical pair.” But what could be the “misteryo” behind the success of their partnership? Find out by watching their recent interview in the weekly program “Tao Po.”

As we all know, they first met when both of them joined Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10 in October 2021. When asked by host Bernadette Sembrano regarding their first impression of one another, KD described how Alexa has been a strong and smart woman. On the other hand, she immediately assumed that he’s an introvert from the get-go.

Even though they have extremely different personalities – Alexa being headstrong, opinionated, and chatty; while KD being quiet, gentle, and chill – these actually help them fortify their relationship as they’re able to complement and balance out each other.

With everything that they went through inside the house, we’d witnessed that it was “Ate Alexa” who served as his shoulder to cry on. Their inclination to and talent in music are what brought them closer together, which, unbeknown to them, had already garnered a huge following in the outside world. Thus, the KDLex tandem was born.

“We communicate really well. We’re on a more mature mindset. We really make an effort to be each other’s partner. We make an effort to be each other’s support system,” KD said about the success of their loveteam.

Alexa, on the other hand, remarked, “Bago kami nabuo bilang KDLex as a loveteam, meron na talaga kaming na-build na connection. Kumbaga, ‘di po kami finorm because of work.”

Another thing that makes their partnership work is how they get to continuously learn from one another. Being the chill and spontaneous guy that he is, KD realized through simply observing Alexa the value of discipline, dedication, and determination, especially in the world that they’re currently in. She has also inspired him to get his life together now that he's already 21. Meanwhile, he has taught her to find peace and contentment in whatever situation she’s in, as well as to be spontaneous since she’s the type of person who wants everything all planned out.

And for those who have been yearning to find out the real score between them, KD stated, “Nagliligawan with a goal…with a long-term goal.” Alexa then added, “What else would you call two people going out, trying to make something? Obviously, I don’t think we’re wasting anyone’s time.”

Bernadette then steered their conversation to KDLex’s first teleserye project together, Pira-Pirasong Paraiso. Alexa described her character Angela Medina as someone who’s heart is full of revenge, anger, and hatred, so it has been her personal mission in life to seek justice for everything that she has gone through. On the other hand, KD’s character Elon Lamadrid grew up in a home with lots of conflict, so he grew up wanting peace, understanding, and proper communication.

Just like other relationships, the pair also has misunderstandings that sometimes result in clashes. But they make sure to talk it out before it escalates to something else. Besides, although they’re in a loveteam, they make sure that they still don’t lose their individuality.

“There is, sometimes, a feeling na we can’t have our individuality because we always have to be together. But that’s something we work on ourselves on-and-off-cam. I make sure that I have my personal goals, which I try to meet,” Alexa related.

KD then conveyed, “Me too, I have my personal goals, I have my stuff that I want to do rin by myself, but it doesn’t mean na I don’t wanna do anything with [her] anymore. It’s just, of course, individuality.”
