PBA: Star's Allein Maliksi nearly became a police officer

Photo from the PBA Images </div></figure></div>MANILA — At 6-foot-4, Allein Maliksi would have been one intimidating police officer.If he hadn&#x27;t made it in basketball, the Star forward said he would have been a crime fighter.“If I (wasn&#x27;t) a pro basketball player, probably I&#x27;m a policeman,” Maliksi said in a Twitter Q&amp;A held by the PBA. “Kasi criminology (ang course ko) before and I&#x27;m not a basketball varsity player nung college.”Maliksi, who also played for Barako Bull and Ginebra before moving to Star, added that being a basketball player is just one of his “dream jobs.”“Nung bata ako, tatlo ang gusto kong maging,” he said. “Una, doctor. Pangalawa, gusto ko maging teacher, then pangatlo gusto ko maging basketball player.”“Luckily I ended up playing basketball.”After becoming the PBA D-League Best Player of the Conference (2011 Foundation Cup), Maliksi was picked eighth overall by Barako Bull during the 2011 PBA Draft.He was later traded to Barangay Ginebra then returned to Barako for a brief period.It was in Purefoods where Maliksi got the most success, being part of the team that won the 2013 Governors&#x27; Cup, 2013-2014 Philippine Cup, 2014 Commissioner&#x27;s Cup and the 2014 Governors&#x27; Cup.“My journey (in the PBA) is difficult and challenging kasi ang daming struggles and trials,” he said. “Pero one thing kaya ako nandito sa PBA, I didn&#x27;t give up.”Maliksi said the reason he’s playing in the league is because of his basketball heroes.“(These are) PBA legends like Vergel Meneses, Ginebra players like Noli Locsin, Vince Hizon, Purefoods players like Alvin Patrimonio, coach Allan Caidic, ‘yung mga players na ‘yun.”(For more sports coverage, visit the ABS-CBN <a href="http://sports.abs-cbn.com" target="_blank">Sports website.</a>)
