<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2017/sports/02/16/hockey-021617_1.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">The Philippine ice hockey team pose for a photo ahead of their flight to Japan for the Asian Winter Games. <cite>Raoul Esperas, ABS-CBN News</cite></div></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine ice hockey team on Thursday left for Sapporo, Japan to compete in the 2017 Asian Winter Games.</p><p>The contingent took a Philippine Airlines flight that will bring them to Sapporo via Haneda, Japan.</p><p>&quot;We&#x27;ve been training for six, seven months now, and we&#x27;re ready,&quot; said team captain Steven Fuglister.</p><p>The Philippines will compete in Division II of the ice hockey event, where they will face off against eight other teams -- Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, Indonesia, Iran, Macau, Malaysia, and Turkmenistan.</p><p>The Philippines are in Group A along with Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, and Qatar. Group round matches start on February 18, but the Philippines will debut on February 21 against Kyrgyzstan.</p><p>A total of 20 teams, including teams from the Top Division and Division I teams, are competing in the ice hockey event. <strong>-- With a report from Raoul Esperas, ABS-CBN News</strong></p>
