MANILA — Arellano University finished 1-2-3 in the 1,500 meters on Friday to crown itself seniors champions for the second straight year in the 92nd NCAA track and field competition at PhilSports Complex in Pasig City.Joe Marie Arevalo snared the gold while teammates Immanuel Camino and Christian Traje claimed the silver and bronze medals, respectively.It was the icing on the cake for Arellano, beating Mapua and DLSU-College of St. Benilde, which ended up second and third.Jose Rizal University, which had won 4 straight track championships before being unseated by Arellano last season, finished No. 4.Arevalo also won in the 800 meters to help Arellano&#x27;s bid.It was Arellano&#x27;s fourth title this season after it also reigned in juniors lawn tennis, women&#x27;s badminton and volleyball.&quot;This is a victory of the whole Arellano community and we&#x27;re proud of their accomplishments,&quot; said Peter Cayco, Arellano&#x27;s representative to the league&#x27;s Management Committee.Perpetual Help&#x27;s Francis Medina, for his part, emerged as the most bemedalled athlete with wins in the 400 meters, 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay.Medina also shattered records in the 110m and 400m hurdles to underscore his amazing performance.In juniors action, Emilio Aguinaldo likewise topped its division for the second straight year, besting San Beda and San Sebastian.Veruel Verdadero powered the Brigadiers to the win while emerging the most outstanding athlete in his class following victories in 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x100m while eclipsing marks in 400m and 4x100m.Former national sprinter Paulino Coloma Jr. of Arellano and Fernando Bagasbas of EAC were named coaches of the year in the seniors and juniors divisions respectively.For more sports coverage, visit the <a href="http://sports.abs-cbn.com/" target="_blank">ABS-CBN Sports website</a>.
