Viray twins earn breakthrough beach volley title for San Beda

MANILA – San Beda University earned a breakthrough championship in NCAA beach volleyball on Saturday, as twins Marie Jeziela and Marie Nieza Viray ruled the Season 93 tournament at Subic Bay in Zambales.Runners-up for the past two seasons, the Viray twins finally emerged on top this year as they beat Emilio Aguinaldo&#x27;s Jaylene May Lumbo and Glyka Mariz Medina, 21-7, 21-10, to claim their first ever crown.The Virays, who lost to San Sebastian&#x27;s Grethcel Soltones and Alyssa Eroa in the past two seasons, went a perfect 11-0 in the beach volleyball tournament.&quot;We&#x27;re so ecstatic because after two years of losing in the finals, we finally won it,&quot; said Jeziela.Nieza Viray earned MVP honors in the women&#x27;s tournament.Meanwhile, the EAC pair of Paolo Cezar Lim and Joshua Mina edged Perpetual Help&#x27;s Joebert Almodiel and Rey Taneo with a come-from-behind 17-21, 21-17, 15-13 win to earn their first men&#x27;s crown.The Lim-Mina tandem also completed a perfect 11-0 season, with Mina winning MVP honors.Arellano ruled the juniors division, with reserve Zachary Dablo stepping up for the injured Adrian Villados to help Jesus Valdez beat San Sebastian in the high school division.The Junior Chiefs won 21-16, 21-18, for their first ever title as well.Up a set and 14-13 in the second, Villados broke his right pinkie finger and had to be rushed to a local hospital.But Dablo stepped up in his place to help Valdez preserve the win, and claim the crown.(For more sports coverage, visit the <a href="http://sports.abs-cbn.com/">ABS-CBN Sports website.</a>)
