MANILA, Philippines -- Lloyd Josafat was unstoppable as the University of the East Red Warriors booked their first win of UAAP Season 82, overcoming University of the Philippines in four sets on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The veteran Josafat submitted a towering performance in a 25-11, 23-25, 25-20, 28-26 triumph, in a bounce back result for the team that lost their season-opener against Far Eastern University last week.

Josafat finished with a whopping 32 points, including the game-clinching block on UP newcomer John Lomibao that sealed the victory.

With UP threatening to send the game to a decider, Josafat took over. He anchored a 4-1 blast that knotted the count at 23, with the Fighting Maroons simply unable to deal with his quick hits in the middle.

Still, the Maroons reached set point twice, at 24-23 after a Josafat service error, and again at 25-24 when Mac Millete uncorked a huge down-the-line bomb. But Kenneth Culabat came through with a hit of his own after a long rally, and Lomibao sent a backrow hit long to put UE at match point, 26-25.

Andaya, another UE middle blocker, had 15 points while Culabat scored 14. The Red Warriors had a huge 62-47 lead in terms of hits, offsetting their 10-4 blocking deficit.

Lomibao had 18 points and Millete finished with 12 markers, while Louis Gamban, the star of UP's upset of Ateneo last Wednesday, had 11 points.
