Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE) San Beda University&#x27;s bid for a fourth consecutive title is off to a winning start, after the Red Lions downed the Arellano University Chiefs, 59-46, in a low scoring affair in the NCAA Season 95 tournament on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena. The Red Lions pulled away in the third frame after settling for a 24-23 halftime lead and allowing the returning Kent Salado to score 13 points in the first half.Behind Donald Tankoua and James Canlas, the Red Lions outscored the Chiefs, 19-12, in the pivotal third frame, taking a 43-35 advantage heading into the payoff period. They limited Arellano to just 11 points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.&quot;It&#x27;s really tough to play during the opening day,&quot; said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez, who acknowledged that his team was too excited to play. &quot;Sa sobrang excited nila, naging tight kami, and we couldn&#x27;t execute our plays and defensive schemes,&quot; he said. &quot;I&#x27;m happy that we led Arellano by one point in the first half.&quot;They made the necessary adjustments in the second half, limiting Salado to just five more points while also clamping down on the rest of the Chiefs. Evan Nelle, now the Red Lions&#x27; starting point guard, had 9 points and 5 assists despite shooting just 4-of-14 from the field.Salado was the lone Arellano player in double-digits with 18 points, but he shot only 2-of-10 from the field in the second half. He also added 11 rebounds, an assist, and a steal, but committed 5 turnovers.
