Perlas clinches SEABA gold with win over Malaysia

<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/news-special1/sports/9/21/perlas-pilipinas-092116.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">The Philippine women&#x27;s basketball team.<em> Photo from SmartGilasBasketball.com</em></div></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA, Philippines -- The Perlas Pilipinas women&#x27;s national basketball team is assured of the gold medal in the 2016 SEABA Championship for Women following a 77-73 win over Malaysia on Saturday night in Malacca.</p><p>Allana Lim had 16 points and Afril Bernardino came off the bench to tally a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five assists for the Filipinas.</p><p>With the victory, Perlas improved to 5-0 in the tournament while handing the host team their first loss. </p><p>A victory over Thailand on Sunday evening will give Perlas a sweep of the SEABA tournament, which they also won in 2010.</p><p>The Filipinas led by as much as 20 points early in the fourth quarter, 71-51, before the Malaysians roared all the way back to make it a four-point game, 73-77, with still 30 seconds to go.</p><p>Perlas held firm, however, forcing a turnover that dashed Malaysia&#x27;s hopes of a comeback.</p><p>Fook Yee Yap had 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting to lead Malaysia.</p>
