Handout photo</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas (UST) swept the men&#x27;s and women&#x27;s championships in the UAAP Season 81 table tennis tournament on Monday at the UP CHK Gym.The Tigresses ended De La Salle University&#x27;s four-year reign in the women&#x27;s division, sweeping the best-of-3 finals via identical 3-2 scores.The Growling Tigers, meanwhile, nipped National University, 3-2, in Game 1 of the men&#x27;s finals then dominated them in Game 2, 3-0, for a perfect 16-0 campaign.This was UST&#x27;s 27th title in the men&#x27;s division, and 13th in the women&#x27;s – both league-records.<ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://sports.abs-cbn.com/uaap/news/2018/10/16/uaap-season-81-table-tennis-ust-achieves-golden-double-48408">READ: UST wins both men&#x27;s and women&#x27;s titles</a></li></ul>The Tigresses placed second in the elimination round behind the Lady Paddlers, who jumped straight to the finals after a 14-0 sweep. But UST defied the odds, as Shaeena Ronquillo outlasted La Salle&#x27;s Jhoana Go, 11-5, 6-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6, in the deciding singles to clinch the series and end a 12-year title drought.Meanwhile, the Tigers simply proved too strong for the Bulldogs, who barged into the finals with five rookies. UST&#x27;s Katrina Tempiatura and Paul Que won the women&#x27;s and men&#x27;s MVP awards, respectively.Josh Castro of the Tigers and Jannah Romero of the Lady Paddlers emerged as the Rookie of the Year in their respective divisions.In juniors table tennis, University of the East (UE) won the boys&#x27; title at the expense of UST, 3-1 and 3-0, as the Junior Warriors swept the best-of-three series, 2-0.UE also nailed a golden double as its girls team topped De La Salle-Zobel, 3-0 and 3-2, for a 2-0 championship series.UE&#x27;s Bill Christian Perez and Ana Sofia Fabregas were named boys and girls MVPs.For more sports coverage, visit the <a href="http://sports.abs-cbn.com">ABS-CBN Sports website</a>.
