MANILA, Philippines – Mapua University completed an escape of Jose Rizal University, 75-71, in their NCAA Season 100 matchup on Saturday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Only holding a two-point 71-69 precarious lead entering the final minute of regulation, birthday boy Clint Escamis drove into a free lane after escaping his defender to give Mapua a two-possession lead, 73-69.

With two seconds left in the shot clock, Joshua Guiab was able to knock down a layup in the possession to keep his team in striking distance for a 73-71 count.

However, just when the Heavy Bombers made it closer, Escamis was fouled by Justin Lozano off the ball, gifting the Mapua side a trip to the charity stripe and a ball possession.

Despite the reigning MVP Escamis going empty with his trey attempt — although he extinguished a lot of time — Chris Hubilla managed to grab the offensive board which spelled the demise of the JRU team as they kept possession of the ball in the dying moments of the game.

Yam Concepcion finished with a rebound shy of a double-double, collecting 19 points and nine boards, while Escamis added 14 points and seven dimes.

Mapua now holds a 7-3 win-loss card.

Guiab and Argente had 16 points each for the Heavy Bombers, who absorbed their seventh loss in 10 matches.

MAPÚA 75 – Concepcion 19, Escamis 14, Hubilla 13, Cuenco 11, Igliane 6, Jabonete 6, Mangubat 3, Agemenyi 3, Bancale 0, Abdulla 0, J. Garcia 0, Pantaleon 0, Fermin 0,
