MANILA – Chris Newsome might have given his all, but it wasn't enough as Meralco absorbed a 101-111 loss from San Miguel in Game 4 of the 2024 PBA Philippine Cup Finals.

The Meralco guard erupted for 40 points, his career high, but the Beermen made sure to waste it as they made the championship series a best-of-three.

Newsome said a win is still more valuable than breaking his personal record.

"Forty points, but we lost. I'll trade that 40 points for a win any day. It's great that I scored 40, but, for me, the win is definitely more important," Newsome said after the ballgame on Wednesday at the Big Dome.

Newsome gave credit to his rivals' adjustments en route to Game 4. Terrence Romeo and Vic Manuel finally saw action for San Miguel and contributed quality minutes to the delight of Jorge Gallent and the rest of Beermen.

"They [San Miguel Beermen] made their adjustments. That’s what a playoff series is about. They definitely came in with a lot more energy today. We definitely saw that. I think the presence of guys like Vic [Manuel] and Terrence [Romeo] did a lot for them," he said.

"We failed to take advantage of it. The fact that they didn’t really have any rhythm in the series, so that could have been an opportunity for us to really take advantage of, those guys that haven’t been playing," Newsome went on. "You gotta give credit for that."

Meralco can rebound on Friday at the same Cubao venue for a pivotal 3-2 lead.

Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
