Mohd Rasfan, AFP"><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align: left;">Philippines' Carlo Paalam celebrates after winning against Ireland's Jude Gallagher in the men's 57kg preliminaries round of 16 boxing match during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the North Paris Arena, in Villepinte on July 31, 2024. <em>Mohd Rasfan, AFP</em></span></span></span></div><p>(<strong>UPDATED</strong>) Carlo Paalam’s campaign in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games has now come to an end. </p><p>The 2021 Tokyo silver medalist fell short of advancing to the semifinals of the quadrennial games’ men’s 57kg boxing event on Saturday after he was dealt a 3-2 split decision loss against Australia’s Charlie Senior during their quarterfinals clash on Saturday evening.</p><p>Paalam’s speed was on full display to open the game as he was able to convert a number of hits on his Australian counterpart early in their bout at the North Paris Arena.</p><p>Senior then had his moments as the first round progressed as he also had his fair share of right hands against the Philippines’ bet, but it was Paalam who earned the slight lead at the end of the first frame.</p><p>The Australian got the slight edge in the second round’s conclusion, and this resulted in both fighters entering the third round in a tie.</p><p>Paalam then approached the decider in a more aggressive manner, but Senior was still able to manage to hold his own against the Filipino hitter and was eventually awarded the victory in the last round.</p><p>Paalam had advanced to the quarterfinals after a unanimous decision win over Ireland's Jude Gallagher in the round-of-16 last Wednesday.</p><p>Senior, for his part, defeated Vasile Usturoi of Belgium in their own round-of-16 to progress. </p><div><a class="fr-strong fr-green" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/2024/7/31/paris-2024-carlo-paalam-defeats-irish-boxer-to-advance-to-qfinals-2142">READ: Carlo Paalam defeats Irish boxer to advance to q'finals</a></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GHYduSttcmk?&wmode=opaque&rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
