PVL Media/File"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Alas Pilipinas middle blocker Thea Gagate and team captain Jia de Guzman. <em>PVL Media</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA -- Two members of the Alas Pilipinas women&#x27;s national volleyball team copped individual awards after the first leg of the SEA V-League.</p><p>Team captain Jia de Guzman earned Best Setter honors, while Thea Gagate was named Best Middle Blocker.</p><p>Alas Pilipinas had won bronze in the leg after a four-set triumph over Indonesia on Sunday in Vinh Phúc, Vietnam.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/2024/8/4/alas-pilipinas-beats-indonesia-for-sea-v-league-bronze-1935">READ: Alas Pilipinas beats Indonesia for SEA V.League bronze</a></div><p>The pair joined four other Filipino players to win individual honors in the regional tournament: Alyssa Solomon (Best Opposite, Leg 2 2023); Kyla Atienza (Best Libero, 2022); Dawn Catindig (Best Libero, Leg 2 2019); and Majoy Baron (Best Middle Blocker, Legs 1 and 2 2019).</p><p>Thailand won the gold in the first leg after beating Vietnam in five sets. Their star, Chatchu-on Moksri, earned Most Valuable Player honors as well as the Best Outside Hitter award along with teammate Ajcharaporn Kongyot.</p><p>Vietnamese star Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen received the Best Opposite award, while Thailand’s Piyanut Pannoy was recognized as the Best Libero. Vietnam’s Dinh Thi Tra Giang was the other Best Middle Blocker.</p><p>Alas Pilipinas returns to action in the second leg of the SEA V.League, set for August 9-11 in Thailand. </p><div><br/></div><div><br/></div><div><br/></div>
