Pia Cayetano (5th from left) and Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richard Bachmann (6th from left) led the groundbreaking ceremony of the seven-story athletes’ dormitory inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila. <em>Handout/Philippine Sports Commission</em></span></span></span>MANILA -- Construction has begun for a seven-storey athletes&#x27; dormitory and training facility at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.</div><p>The groundbreaking for the new facilities took place on Thursday. </p><p>The dormitory is expected to serve more than a hundred athletes, who will benefit from modernized and safe living accommodations that also feature advanced training gyms for boxing and pencak silat athletes.</p><p>The new building will be constructed on the site of the former Pencak Silat and Boxing gyms, adjacent to the Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Center. </p><p>&quot;This dormitory will serve as their second home away from their respective families while chasing to build a legacy for the Philippines,&quot; said Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richard Bachmann in a statement. </p><p>Bachmann, Senator Pia Cayetano, Comm. Walter Torres, Comm. Olivia ‘Bong’ Coo, and other PSC officials; District Engineer Manny Bulusan of the Department of Public Works and Highways, and Philippine long jump queen Elma Muros-Posadas buried the time capsule which will be opened again years from now signifying the growth made by the project. </p><p>Members of the national training pool from baseball, softball, sepak takraw, indoor hockey, and weightlifting also witnessed the groundbreaking rite.</p><p>&quot;Excited po kami, sana maging successful po ito. May bagong place po kaming mga atleta,&quot; said Aldrin Colonia, a teenage weightlifter who hails from the same family as Olympians Gregorio and Nestor.</p><div><br/></div><div></div>
