Handout photo"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">The Philippine Volcanoes. <em>Handout photo</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Philippine Men’s Volcanoes successfully defended their Unions Cup title after dismantling Malaysia, 39-18, on Saturday in Nonthaburi, Thailand.</p><p>After holding their ground in a tightly contested first half, the Volcanoes erupted in the second half with a scoring explosion against first-time finalists Malaysia to secure back-to-back crowns. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/othersports/2026/7/16/rugby-philippine-volcanoes-reach-unions-cup-final-after-dominant-win-over-singapore-1512"><strong>Rugby: Volcanoes reach Unions Cup final after dominant win over Singapore</strong></a></div><p>James Halasan Ryan powered past the Malaysian defense, followed by a successful conversion from Ryan Rodriguez Curtis to put the Volcanoes up 7-0 early.</p><p>Malaysia rallied at every chance they had, providing answers to the Volcanoes’ offense in the rest of the first half to keep the score level at 15-all at the break. </p><p>In the second half, the Volcanoes erupted with a scoring blitz, particularly in the final ten minutes of play. Connor Browne and Curtis delivered the final blow with one final try and a kick to seal the win for the Philippines, 39-18.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/05/29/19/rugby-ph-volcanoes-down-sri-lanka-to-advance-to-asia-division-1-finals"><strong>Rugby: PH Volcanoes down Sri Lanka to advance to Asia Division-1 finals </strong></a> </div><p>The crown capped off the dominant campaign for the Philippine Men’s Rugby Team, starting off the tournament with a 74-0 rout of Laos, followed by a 33-10 victory over Singapore in the semifinals. </p><p>The Volcanoes will get to compete in front of a home crowd and gun for a historic three-peat, as the Philippines will be hosting the Unions Cup next year.</p>
