Photo by Angela Davocol/NCAA Philippines.MANILA — University of Perpetual Help proved why they are the best team in the NCAA after they survived San Beda University in triple overtime, 88-85, during their Season 101 clash at the FilOil Centre in San Juan on Wednesday.</div>The Altas maintained their spot at the top of Group A with their league-leading eighth win in nine games, and making magic for the cagers from Las Piñas were Patrick Sleat and Mark Gojo Cruz.“I’m just so proud of how we fought today,” said Perpetual coach Olsen Racela, who got 23 points, six rebounds, and four assists from Sleat, and 20 markers, five boards, and five dimes from Gojo Cruz.“To beat a great program like San Beda is an achievement for our team,” added Racela, who also saw JP Boral drill the game-sealing off an assist from Gojo Cruz to close the door on their Mendiola-based counterparts.Boral finished with eight points, while John Abis had a double-double to the tune of 14 points and 11 rebounds as Perpetual U put itself in a good place to end its elimination round assignments on a high note.On the other hand, the Red Lions were handed their second loss in eight games in Group B despite Janti Miller resetting his career-high with 28 points on top of seven rebounds.Still, they remained at the top of their pool, with College of Saint Benilde closely following them at 6-3, while Colegio de San Juan de Letran is third with a 5-4 record.<div style="line-height:1.5"> </div><div style="line-height:1.5">The Scores:</div>Perpetual 88 – Sleat 23, Gojo Cruz 20, Abis 14, Nunez 8, Boral 8, Orgo 7, Alcantara 5, Casinillo 2, Pizzaro 1, Maglupay 0, Borja 0, Gelsano 0.San Beda 85 – Miller 28, Andrada 13, Gonzales 11, Estacio 10, Puno 9, Etulle 5, Lina 4, Culdora 3, Celzo 2, Sajonia 0, Reyes 0, Calimag 0.Quarterscores: 17-8, 36-36, 48-51, 64-64, 72-72, 77-77, 88-85.
