Referees calling games in the juniors division earn P2,500.</p><p>In the previous UAAP season, the pay was at P2,500 regardless of which division.</p><p>The base pay for referees officiating in the women’s side is reportedly at Php 2000, while those who officiate in the men’s receive Php 3000. In the previous year, the pay was at Php 2000 regardless of division.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2025/9/29/uaap-gabriela-condemns-reported-pay-gap-for-women-s-basketball-referees-1938"><strong>READ: UAAP: Gabriela condemns reported ‘pay gap’ for women’s basketball referees<br/></strong></a></div><p>In an earlier statement released by the UAAP, the league said the fees are based on &quot;tiers&quot; which reflect the &quot;faster pace&quot; of men&#x27;s matches compared to the juniors&#x27; and women&#x27;s games.</p><p>The league also said the official&#x27;s fees are &quot;determined by division and not by gender.&quot;</p><p>The move was criticized by the women&#x27;s basketball community like Gilas Pilipinas women standouts Kent Pastrana and Tin Cayabyab, University of Santo Tomas head coach Haydee Ong.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2025/9/27/ust-star-pastrana-on-reported-uaap-referees-pay-gap-tingin-nila-sa-women-s-basketball-mababa-1827"><strong>READ: UST star Pastrana on reported pay gap for UAAP referees: ‘Tingin nila sa women’s basketball mababa’<br/></strong></a></div><p>Most recently, House Assistant Minority Leader and Gabriela Party-list representative Sarah Elago slammed the UAAP over the matter, calling on the league to pay referees fairly.</p><p>Members of the women&#x27;s basketball community earlier cried foul, saying the move shows how they are seen as more inferior compared to the men&#x27;s side.</p><p>The SBP ended its statement calling for stakeholders to &quot;remain united&quot; in this front.</p><p>&quot;We can only elevate Philippine basketball to its highest levels if we grow it for everyone,&quot; it said.</p>
