MANILA — Aside from the fans, one PBA legend is looking forward to the Manila Clasico opener for the league’s golden season.The Magnolia Hotshots will take on the Barangay Ginebra to open the PBA’s 50th season on Sunday.Five-time PBA Champion Jerry “Defense Minister” Codiñera said one thing he misses the most about the league is the fans and the Manila Clasico games.The former Purefoods player encouraged fans to watch the game featuring the epic rivalry.“Exciting yun. Kasi maraming mga bagong players ang mga teams ngayon na maglalaro. Very promising, ibang klaseng mga players. Ang gagaling dumrive, gagaling ng shooting,” he told reporters during the PBA 50 Homecoming on Saturday.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2025/10/1/manila-clasico-to-open-pba-s-50th-season-2201">&#x27;Manila Clasico&#x27; to open PBA&#x27;s 50th season </a></div>Codiñera is also excited to see eight-time PBA champion LA Tenorio make his coaching debut, especially against his former team and coach Tim Cone.“Si Tinyente, LA Tenorio it’s his first time to coach. Hindi natin alam kung anong mga ipapakita niya na magic tomorrow. Pero exciting siyempre. Maraming baton tao sa team niyang hahawakan,” he shared.Magnolia team manager and PBA legend Alvin Patrimonio said he misses winning championships with the franchise.The 6-time PBA champion hopes the Hotshots can finally bring a trophy to the team.“Matagal na kasi, 2018 pa yung last ng Purefoods. We’re praying for another championship,” he said.Magnolia will clash with Ginebra on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum.
