Photo from PBA Images.</div>MANILA — Following the Magnolia Hotshots’ PBA 50 Philippine Cup opening day victory, veteran guard Mark Barroca has further extended his streak of consecutive games played.According to PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III, Barroca is now well into the 600-mark with 619 after Sunday’s game, currently the longest for an active PBA player.This is also the second-most all-time, and coincidentally, it is his new head coach LA Tenorio who is sitting at the top of the ‘Iron Man’ list with 744.”Nanalo kami sa first game namin, so masaya, kasi new system, new coach with LA, kaya magandang start ito,” Barroca told ABS-CBN News, reflecting on their first outing with his former Barangay Ginebra rival-turned-mentor.It was in December 2024 when Barroca passed Purefoods legend Alvin Patrimonio to move up to No. 2 all-time, inching closer to Tenorio’s record.Tenorio, for his part, topped the list in March 2019 when he was in his 13th season at 34 years old. He ended his streak during the 2023 Governors’ Cup due to a groin injury.On the other hand, Barroca, now 39, is in his 14th year in the PBA.The question now is, will the former Far Eastern University guard look to surpass the streak of his current coach?“Hanggang kaya ko maglaro, hindi ako mag-stop,” he said. “Kung kaya, bakit hindi? Hindi ko naman sa hinahabol, at kung hindi ko naman kaya, ititigil ko na. Mahirap din &#x27;yun, baka ano pa &#x27;yung mangyari sa katawan ko, ‘di ba? Pero hanggat kaya, tuloy-tuloy lang.”The former Gilas Pilipinas player then shared how his focus is on making the most out of playing for his former rival, and not breaking the aforementioned record.“Masayang experience ’to,” said Barroca who had countless ‘Manila Clasico’ battles with Tenorio throughout the years. “Minsan lang &#x27;yung ganyan eh. Kalaban mo dati, tapos head coach mo na, so magandang experience ito.”“Ad dahil dun, mas mabilis &#x27;yung adjustments namin. Kino-coach niya ako, pero at the same time gina-guide niya rin ako.
