Photo by Angela Davocol/NCAA Philippines.MANILA — Titing Manalili took charge as Colegio de San Juan de Letran stunned San Beda University, 87-83, in NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball on Sunday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.</div>The Knights’ prized rookie tied his career-high with 26 points, 11 assists, four rebounds, and two steals to lift the Muralla-based squad to their eighth win in 13 games.“Having that clarity, defensively and offensively, was the key for us,” said Letran coach Allen Ricardo as they crawled back from a 13-point deficit in the third canto.“Now, we shift our focus to the playoffs,” added Ricardo, as they prepare for their quarterfinal faceoff against Arellano University with a twice-to-beat disadvantage.Also making things work for Letran were Kevin Santos, who had 14 points and five rebounds, and Jun Roque and Deo Cuajao, who each scored 10, but none was more crucial than Manalili.With the game down to a single point late in the fourth, Manalili took matters into his own hands by scoring four straight points to give Letran an 86-81 lead.Janti Miller answered with a long jumper, albeit ruled as a two, but it was enough to give San Beda a fighting chance as they trimmed the deficit to three, 83-86, with 12 seconds left.However, Manalili split his charities to restore a four-point cushion, which was all Letran needed to build momentum heading into the playoffs.On the other hand, Miller reset his career-high with 34 points, five rebounds, and an assist, but despite his stellar performance, the Red Lions absorbed their fourth loss in 13 games.
