Photo from PBA Images.MANILA — The Rain or Shine ElastoPainters proved that they are among the PBA’s best teams anew despite yet another semifinals exit.</div>Even with RoS falling short to the TNT Tropang 5G in the Season 49 Philippine Cup semis, head coach Yeng Guiao was pleased with how things went for his squad, especially with how they fared against the Grand Slam-seaking team.“We felt that this was a big chance for us to, at least, take it to a Game 7. Kaso, wala eh, we missed some shots, we made some turnovers, yun yung naging breakaway point,” he acknowledged following their Game 6 semis loss last Sunday.“It’s still closing out games, yun pa rin ang problema namin. We couldn’t make the big plays that we needed the most. But, we still look at it as a positive development for the team,” he added.This was the fourth straight semifinals of the ElastoPainters dating back to the last conference of Season 48, a testament to how they have reclaimed their spot among the big boys of the PBA despite being undermanned most of the way.“Apat na sunod na semifinals, and we’re still awaiting yung health ni Beau [Belga] at ni Luis [Villegas]. We still have a lot of things to look forward to, si Felix [Lemetti] magiging available na, and it’s still All-Filipino,” he said.Guiao also hailed the development of his backcourt, with Adrian Nocum, Andrei Caracut, and Anton Asistio all taking turns in leading the charge for the E-Painters.“Yung mga point guards namin kasi, kulang pa sa experience,” he acknowledged. “May malaking improvement naman si Andrei, si Anton, above average, at may cinontribute talaga siyang maganda, pero overall, outsized talaga.”“Siguro, one thing we can improve on is having more size in the guard position,” Guiao added, before posting his challenge for his playmakers.“They need to experience disappointments, playing with the good and tough teams, and closing out games,” said Guiao. “Kaya kami matagal nag-usap para mag-evaluate at mag-analyze. Wala naman akong pinagalitan, kasi tingin ko, overall, it’s still a positive conference for us.”“For them, mahaba-haba yung bakasyon, so they have a lot of time to think through how they can improve themselves,” he added.But while Guiao’s sentiments point towards internal improvement, the E-Painters are not closing the door on improving the roster either through the draft or even acquiring new pieces.  “‘Di naman kailangan ng malaking overhaul,” he said. “Ang importante lang sa amin, makabalik si Beau, si Luis, and si Felix. And then we can think of one or two upgrades.”“Pero kahit nga yung draft, dahil wala pa kaming nakikitang solid na pangalan, ‘di pa kami nakakapag plano lalo na yung pick namin towards the end of the first round, so di namin pwedeng gamitin yun to fill kung anong kulang namin.”“But, we are open to upgrading our team from other resources,” continued Guiao.<div>PBA Season 50 is expected to open on October 5, 2025, at the Araneta Coliseum.
