Photo courtesy of UCAL.MANILA — The University of the Philippines announced Wednesday the passing of its recruit Israel Friday. He was 19.</div>The 6-foot-10 Nigerian center collapsed during practice on Tuesday. The UP Office of Athletics and Sports Development (OASD) said that the exact cause of death has yet to be confirmed.Friday was immediately brought to a nearby hospital where, despite the efforts of medical personnel, he passed away.He recently transferred from Centro Escolar University, where he starred for the Scorpions as their 6-foot-10 man in the middle in the University and Colleges Athletic League.The UP OASD said it was extending its full support to Friday’s family and asking everyone to respect their privacy as they grieve this tragic loss.
