Photo from FIBA Basketball.MANILA — The Gilas Pilipinas Boys basketball team fell short in their 2025 FIBA U16 Asia Cup opener on Sunday.</div>The LA Tenorio-coached squad was dealt a rude welcome by Chinese Taipei, 106-82, during their Group B faceoff at the Buyant Ukhaa Sport Complex in Mongolia.Prince Cariño led the Nationals with 23 points, six rebounds, and an assist, Jeremiah Antolin posted 11 markers and seven boards, while Brian Orca Jr. had seven points and 13 rebounds.It was only a seven-point advantage by Taipei after the 10 minutes of action, with the Philippines trailing 28-21.Unfortunately for the Philippines, it was all Chinese Taipei from that point on, as they led Gilas 29-21 in the second frame, and 30-20 in the third quarter.These eventually led to Gilas trailing by 30 later on, a disadvantage that proved to be too much for Tenorio’s troops to crawl back from as the game progressed.Despite outrebounding Chinese Taipei, 55-37, Gilas could not overcome its 36 turnovers to the Taiwanese’ 16.
