Photo from FIBA Basketball."/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Gilas Pilipinas forward Jamie Malonzo. <em>Photo from FIBA Basketball.</em></span></span></span>MANILA — Jamie Malonzo is yet to see action for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup.</div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2025/8/9/fiba-ramos-shines-as-gilas-posts-breakthrough-asia-cup-win-at-iraq-s-expense-1741"><strong>READ: Ramos shines as Gilas posts breakthrough Asia Cup win at Iraq’s expense</strong></a></div><p><strong></strong>Malonzo is the lone Gilas player who has not yet logged a minute for the Tim Cone-coached squad, which now has a 1-2 record in Group D after a breakthrough win against Iraq on Saturday.<strong></strong></p><p>Malonzo logged yet another DNP (did not play) in their win against Iraq and their previous bout against Chinese Taipei, and he also did not see action alongside CJ Perez and Japeth Aguilar vs. New Zealand.</p><p>However, head coach Tim Cone shared that he himself is not feeling good about not finding his former Barangay Ginebra forward minutes on the court.</p><p>“It&#x27;s hard playing all 12 players with this much talent on the team, and no one feels worse about not playing him than me,” Cone told ABS-CBN News after Gilas’ win.</p><p>The PBA’s winningest coach even cited Team USA’s Jayson Tatum who also had a couple of DNP’s and saw limited action during the Americans’ golden campaign in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.</p><p>“He is our Jayson Tatum,” said Cone. “All 12 guys are committed to each other and Jamie is showing great professionalism in handling his role.”</p><p>Due to their win against Iraq, Gilas will now advance into the Asia Cup’s knockout stage for a quarterfinals berth.
