<p>MANILA — The Philippine racing community is mourning the death of jockey Elvin A. Abrea, who passed away following a tragic racing incident.</p><p>The Philippine Racing Commission shared the news on Sunday as it joined the racing community in mourning Abrea, who died a day earlier on January 17.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fphilracom%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02j6mMrZi8xBVQ9cdQtHtUx3PnxJ264E7AWQCxKTegfw2H6hJaBpJYGJfbGRL76VdVl&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=500" width="500" height="419" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>“His absence leaves a void in our community. We support his family and the racing community during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Jockey EA Abrea. May he find eternal peace,” the commission said.</p><p>Abrea was 32.</p><p>During a race on Saturday, Abrea fell from his mount and was accidentally run over by the horse behind him.</p><p>PHILACROM, through its chairman Aurelio P. De Leon, subsequently declared a Racing Holiday in respect of Abrea’s passing.</p><p>“The declaration is made as a mark of respect and solidarity with the jockeys and stakeholders of the industry, and to allow the racing community to properly mourn his untimely demise and honor his contributions to the sport,” it said.</p><p>The Philippine Jockey Club also extended its condolences to Abrea’s family as it joined the racing community in mourning.</p>
