Bobby Yap, SJ announced the development in a press conference on Monday at the university campus.</p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2026/6/8/uaap-ateneo-s-adili-baterbonia-pass-away-in-drowning-incident-1959"><strong>READ: Ateneo’s Adili, Baterbonia pass away in drowning incident</strong></a></div><p>Baldwin and Quimpo had previously been officially placed “on leave” following the tragic drowning incident in Dipaculao, Aurora on June 8 that claimed the lives of Baterbonia and Adili.</p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2026/6/12/-i-failed-as-a-leader-as-a-coach-says-baldwin-as-he-breaks-silence-on-adili-baterbonia-s-death-1935"><strong>READ: ‘I failed as a leader, as a coach,’ says Baldwin as he breaks silence on Adili, Baterbonia’s deaths</strong></a></div><p>Baldwin and Quimpo were among those subpoenaed by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) at Camp Crame earlier Monday as investigations into the incident continue.</p><p><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/15/ateneo-s-tab-baldwin-expected-to-face-cidg-labor-dept-0954">Neither of the two personally appeared</a>, with only their legal representatives attending.</p><p>Baldwin’s departure marks the end of a 10-year stint with Ateneo.</p><p>The American-Kiwi mentor steered the Blue Eagles to four consecutive UAAP Finals appearances from 2016 to 2019 and guided the program to a three-peat in Seasons 80 to 82.</p><p>Ateneo&#x27;s most recent championship under Baldwin came in UAAP Season 85 in December 2022.</p><p>Since then, the Blue Eagles have reached the UAAP Final Four only once — in Season 86 in 2023 — before entering a rebuilding phase over the next two years.</p><p>Baldwin also previously served as Gilas Pilipinas head coach and later worked as an assistant coach and team consultant with the Talk ‘N Text franchise in the PBA.</p><p>Before the tragedy, Baldwin had expressed confidence in Ateneo’s prospects for UAAP Season 89, with 18-year-old rookie Baterbonia and 21-year-old Adili expected to bolster a promising core led by veteran guard Jared Bahay and top recruit Kieffer Alas.</p><p>“This is the most mature squad that we’ve had in the last five years,” Baldwin said after Ateneo opened its now-aborted campaign in the 19th FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup with a 72-52 victory over Adamson University on June 6.</p><p>However, his tenure in Loyola Heights has come to an ignominious end, with Baldwin now facing legal scrutiny and public backlash over his perceived role in the events leading up to the deaths of Adili and Baterbonia.</p><p>He had broken his silence over the incident only last Friday, four days after the tragedy, and apologized for &quot;failing&quot; as a leader and as a coach.</p><p>However, his apologies were rejected by the families of Baterbonia and Adili, who continue to ask for an explanation as to what happened that led to the deaths of their sons. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong></strong></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:<span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="960" height="540" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Q6dGkiMTes0?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></strong></div>
