<p>MANILA -- Ateneo de Davao University basketball head coach Jess Evangelio announced that four players who were previously set to transfer to Ateneo de Manila University have decommitted and will instead join La Salle Zobel. </p><p>In a Facebook post on Saturday, Evangelio shared a photo with players Macky Pellegrino, Matt Cayetano, JM Sanoria, and Rhysus Bajenting, confirming with “great pride and gratitude” that they will begin a new chapter in both their basketball and academic journeys at La Salle Zobel.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/19/baterbonia-to-be-laid-to-rest-on-wednesday-in-talacogon-s-new-cemetery-1622"><strong>Baterbonia to be laid to rest on Wednesday in Talacogon’s new cemetery </strong></a> </div><p>The announcement came nearly two weeks after the drowning deaths of Ateneo de Manila recruit and former Palarong Pambansa Most Valuable Player Rene Clert Baterbonia and his Nigerian teammate, Divine Adili.</p><p>“We are truly thankful to La Salle Zobel for opening its doors and providing them with the opportunity to grow not only as athletes, but also as students and young men of character. Your trust and belief in their potential mean so much to all of us,” Evangelio said in his Facebook post. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/19/ateneo-community-members-stage-walkout-for-accountability-after-baterbonia-adili-s-deaths-1758"><strong>Ateneo community members stage walkout for accountability after Baterbonia, Adili’s deaths</strong></a></div><p>The AdDU head coach said they do not take the opportunity lightly, adding that the players are committed to working hard and representing the Lasallian community with pride, discipline, and integrity both on and off the court.</p><p>“A special thank you to Coach Gian Nazario for believing in them and for playing a significant role in helping shape their future. We are honored to entrust our boys to your program,” he said.</p>
