Aliya Agbon, SBP</div>MANILA -- The Philippines took care of business against Vietnam for a triumphant start in their campaign in the FIBA U18 Women&#x27;s Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers, Tuesday at the STI West Negros University Gym in Bacolod City.The young Gilas U-18 Women&#x27;s squad shook off a slow start to pull away for a 93-42 triumph, giving Sandy Arespacochaga a winning debut.The Philippines led by only five points, 19-14, after the first quarter, but a combination of efficient offense and tight defense allowed the hosts to pull away and secure their first win.Tiffany Reyes was named Best Player of the Game after finishing with 14 points and five rebounds.UAAP Season 88 Girls&#x27; Basketball Most Valuable Player (MVP) Rhiane Perez led the squad in scoring with 16 points, along with seven rebounds and four steals. Zaydhen Rosano chipped in 15 points, while Lea Pinuela got hot from three-point range late in the game to add 13.Top playmaker Sophia Dignadice impressed with 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, and six steals.&quot;It was a good first game for us because everyone was able to contribute both offensively and defensively. Everyone was eager and excited to play in the first quarter,&quot; said Gilas Pilipinas Women Program Director Bacon Austria.Also off to a winning start is Indonesia, which took a 66-49 win over Singapore behind the 14 points of Ariqa Shafa Chayyara.Indonesia only led by four points, 15-11, after the first quarter, but their defense became too tough for the Singaporeans to overcome in the second and third periods.Indonesia finished with 21 steals in the game and converted those into 17 points off turnovers.
