Angela Davocol/NCAA Philippines. MANILA — Former San Beda University guard and NCAA men&#x27;s basketball champion JV Gallego has passed away.</div>He was 28.The chief of police of the Meycauayan City Police Station, P/Lt. Col. Melvin Florida confirmed that Gallego was driving the vehicle when it rammed a concrete barrier while traversing the expressway.Gallego, also a former player of National University in the UAAP, was brought to the hospital after the incident but was declared dead on arrival.The former Bicol Volcanoes guard in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) first starred for Chiang Kai Shek College.There, he emerged as one of the country&#x27;s top talents before earning a spot with Gilas Pilipinas Youth in the 2016 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship.Gallego&#x27;s former Chiang Kai Shek teammate Fran Yu was among the first to pay tribute to the NCAA Season 99 champion.&quot;To my Batman since Day 1, thank you for being an incredible person, a great teammate, and a true friend from the very beginning,&quot; Yu wrote of Gallego, who later became his rival in the NCAA.<div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Ffranlouie.yu.3%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0Yq21jZWm4ETaf2fS2BMU8vsb6sd5X7AVnWNW6VvpPfZjzTiztUnriaqykW5Mvzjbl&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=500" width="500" height="333" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>&quot;Thank you for every memory, every laugh, and every moment we shared on and off the court. May the Lord grant him eternal rest and bring strength and comfort to his family, teammates, friends, and loved ones,” it said.
