MANILA — Gilas Pilipinas’ bid to qualify for the 2027 FIBA World Cup enters a crucial stretch, and fan favorite Dwight Ramos knows there is little room for error as the national team looks to keep its campaign on track.</div>“When we first started, we already discussed that we can’t lose,” said Ramos as Gilas continues its push for a top-four finish in Group E of the World Cup Qualifiers, looking to avoid further complications in its path to the global showpiece.Gilas will finally face teams from Asia after previously taking on Oceanian squads Australia, New Zealand, and Guam earlier in the qualifiers, but Ramos remains wary of the challenge posed by Jordan, Iran, and Syria.“We gotta shoot for being perfect to give ourselves a chance to make the World Cup,” he emphasized.Gilas takes on Jordan on August 28 before facing Iran on August 30.For Ramos, the Middle Eastern teams are just as dangerous, with both Jordan and Iran boasting five wins in their first six games so far.“We played Jordan many times before, and Iran is a bit unfamiliar, but they are both good teams,” said Ramos. “Iran plays very good team basketball, and Jordan has some high-level individual players.”Making things tougher for Ramos and company, Gilas will be without Justin Brownlee for its next two games as he continues to recover from injuries to both legs.That could mean more responsibility for Ramos, particularly on the offensive end, but the star swingman believes a balanced approach will give the Philippines its best chance of achieving its goal.“Playing together as a team,” he stressed. “Everyone’s gonna contribute and play their roles. Play hard, then we’ll see what happens with the results.”
