Photo from FIBA Basketball.MANILA — Dwight Ramos nearly missed Gilas Pilipinas’ clash with Iran, but the fan-favorite swingman fought through illness to help the Nationals complete another comeback win.</div>The 27-year-old finished with 16 points and seven rebounds as <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2026/8/30/fiba-all-filipino-gilas-outlasts-iran-to-sweep-homestand-2145">Gilas took down the visitors, 68-56</a>, in the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, with head coach Tim Cone revealing just how close Ramos came to sitting out.“He woke up with flu symptoms,” revealed Cone. “We had to get him a drip to get ready. He was not feeling well. He was throwing up a little bit, so for him to come in and do the job that he did was awesome.”Ramos kept the Philippines within striking distance after Gilas fell into a 13-point deficit in the first half, scoring nine points and grabbing five rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.His early production helped keep Gilas afloat before the Nationals found their groove in the second half, but Ramos was quick to deflect the credit.“We just believed in each other, so whoever is out there on the court, it looks like they’re playing with confidence,” he said. “Make or miss, it doesn’t matter because as teammates, we’re always behind them and we pick each other up.”For Ramos, more important than his individual performance was seeing Gilas string together back-to-back wins after four straight losses heading into this window.“It feels good to start winning games again. We had a tough window, but it feels like we’re getting our groove,” he said.
