CSB ALLEN LIWAG.jpeg" style="width: 960px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align: left;">College of Saint Benilde star and back-to-back NCAA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Allen Liwag in NCAA Season 101. <em>Photo by Angela Davocol/NCAA Philippines.</em></span></span></span>MANILA &mdash; While Allen Liwag is set to be sidelined indefinitely due to an Achilles injury, College of Saint Benilde active consultant Charles Tiu is not ruling out the possibility of the reigning back-to-back MVP playing out his final collegiate year in NCAA Season 102.</div><p>&ldquo;He is not out for the season,&rdquo; Tiu told ABS-CBN News, as Liwag recovers from the injury he sustained in early August. &ldquo;Nothing confirmed.&rdquo;</p><p>On Monday, August 31, head coach Paolo Layug initially shared that Liwag was recovering from a then-undisclosed injury, with the bruising big man unlikely to be ready for their season opener against defending champion San Beda University on September 13.</p><p>But while Liwag is still expected to be sidelined beyond the season opener due to what was eventually revealed as an Achilles injury, Tiu has provided some clarity on the bruising big man&rsquo;s status for now.</p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2026/8/31/ncaa-csb-s-allen-liwag-uncertain-for-opening-day-due-to-undisclosed-injury-2154"><strong>READ: Liwag uncertain for opening day due to undisclosed injury</strong></a></div><p>&ldquo;He is doing rehab, and will try to come back,&rdquo; said Tiu, who assumed the active deputy role after being named the Phoenix Fuel Masters&rsquo; head coach in the PBA earlier this year. &ldquo;He just had a procedure for his foot.&rdquo;</p><p>The Blazers are still in search of their first NCAA men&rsquo;s basketball title in over two decades, and Liwag&rsquo;s extended absence could be a significant blow to their campaign this year.</p><p>However, Layug, who took over the head coaching duties after Tiu&rsquo;s move to the PBA, is confident that the rest of their players will hold the fort whether Liwag returns or not.</p><p>&ldquo;Kahit sino ilagay namin sa loob ng court, we expect them to perform at a high level, and play Benilde Basketball,&rdquo; he said, as the Blazers lean on veteran forward Justine Sanchez to lead their core.</p><div><br></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:<span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="960" height="540" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sZKktx3l9u4?&wmode=opaque&rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></strong></div>
