Photo from the Philippine Sports Commission (POC)."/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Nesthy Petecio receiving the President’s Award in the Philippine Sportswriters Association’s (PSA) Annual Awards Night. <em>Photo from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).</em></span></span></span>MANILA — Nesthy Petecio has been delivering nothing but greatness for the Philippines in one of boxing’s greatest stages.</div><p>The 5-foot-2, Davao del Sur native has brought home two medals in consecutive stints in the Olympic Games — a silver from the pandemic-delayed edition in Tokyo 2020 and a bronze from Paris 2024 — and this resulted in Petecio being feted with the President’s Award in the annual Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards Night.</p><p>“Sobrang blessed po at nakakatuwa na na-recognize po ulit yung hirap ko para sa karangalang nadala po namin para sa bansa,” said Petecio at the Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel on Monday.</p><p>Petecio, alongside fellow President’s Award recipient Aira Villegas and the country’s past and present Olympians, was celebrated by the PSA, and for the pride of the Philippine Coast Guard, it was an honor to share the stage with some of the country’s brightest stars.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/othersports/2025/1/28/carlos-yulo-other-filipino-sports-royalty-celebrated-in-2024-psa-awards-night-1409">READ: Carlos Yulo, other Filipino sports royalty celebrated in 2024 PSA Awards Night</a></div><p>”Parang nag reunion po kami, tapos mas nabuo po yung ugnayan namin,” Nesthy pointed out, before also briefly sharing what changed for her following her success in the quadrennial games.</p><p>“‘Di ko alam kung may nagbago, pero ang alam ko lang nabibigay ko na yung pangangailangan ng pamilya ko. Kung ano yung gusto nila, nabibigay ko,” said Petecio.</p><p>If there is one thing that Nesthy is sure and confident of, however, that is finally getting the elusive boxing Olympic gold for the Philippines. But that is if the International Olympic Committee decides to retain the sport in the 2028 Los Angeles edition of the event.</p><p>“Ako, sobrang 100 percent ako na may Olympics talaga, yung boxing, para sa atin,” she said. “Kung bibigyan ulit ako ng pagkakataon na makapag-qualify, i-pupush pa natin nang i-pupush hanggang mai-uwi natin yung ginto.”</p><p>“Walang hihinto hangga’t walang ginto.”</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/2024/8/3/bach-says-boxing-should-be-in-la-olympics-with-conditions-1928">READ: Bach says boxing should be in LA Olympics, with conditions</a></div><p>In the meantime, what Petecio is focusing on is making another campaign in the Southeast Asian Games, and she is also looking forward to help elevating the game of the country’s up-and-coming boxers.</p><p>“Andyan po ako sa SEA Games, and marami pong mga tournament,” Petecio said. “Pero mas gusto ko ring bigyan ng chances yung youth and juniors natin sa mga major competitions natin.”<strong></strong></p><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><script data-wid="auto" type="text/javascript" src="https://content.viralize.tv/display/?zid=AAEyze-tm4MR6kEa&amp;cid=ABToPu_uRLqYcYVe&amp;activation=click&amp;vip_mode=playing&amp;vip_position=bottom-right"></script>
