Handout photo.MANILA — 144 players across 72 teams saw intense, high-octane action as the inaugural RACKS Pickleball Cup finally took center stage last October 11 and 12 in Tiendesitas in Pasig City.\</div>The duo of Devon Minor and Cyril Recto outlasted 35 other squads to rule the Intermediate Division (28+ years old), while Queenie Ann Marie De Los Reyes and Luis Napoles ruled the Novice side (22+ years old) in the two-day event that was complemented by quality offerings from RACKS.“Pickleball’s popularity has exploded, and we thought that the people who dine with us also love pickleball,” said Leopoldo “Chukri” Prieto III, Managing Director of RACKS.“Our RACKS Pickleball Cup also allowed us to collaborate with our customers and create a community with them. And after the competitive tournament, they also enjoyed RACKS comfort food,” he added.The pairing of Mikko Malona and JC Riel finished second, while ED Jamolod and Joria Cornelia placed third in the Intermediate side of the two-day tilt which was in partnership with Pinnacle PH, Momentum PH, Franklin, PSI Sports Inc., and Chronos Athletics.On the other hand, second placers in the Novice Division were Laarnie Luna and Randolf Olyvar, while Pamela and Shawn Lee Yap placed third.Eric Fontillas, RACKS’ Operations and Marketing Manager, shared that the winners of each division were awarded trophies, medals, cash prizes, and gift certificates.The champions received P25k cash and P5k RACKS GCs (Intermediate) and P15k cash and P5k RACKS GCs (Novice) with trophies. The second placers earned P20k cash and P3k GCs (Intermediate) and P12k cash and P3k GCs (Novice) with medals, while the third placers got P15k cash and P2k GCs (Intermediate) and P10k cash and P2k GCs with medals.After the successful staging of the first-ever RACKS Pickleball Cup, Prieto said that their customers and supporters can expect more next year, possibly even introducing more events.“Being part of a sporting community was something that I personally wanted, and now that we have entered this venture, this opened our eyes to other sports,” he said.“Collaborating with sports is a good avenue for us to take, so we’re definitely looking at adding more sports in the future,” he added.
