Handout photo</div>MANILA -- Businessman and lawmaker Mikee Romero added another feather to his cap as a sportsman, after becoming the first Filipino to make it to the Top 25 of the World Polo Tour (WPT) amateur rankings.Romero is now ranked 24th after earning 110 WPT points through the 2025 Gauntlet of Polo.He is now the highest-ranked Filipino in WPT history, and has now surpassed Thailand&#x27;s Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha and Brunei&#x27;s Mateen Bolkiah as Southeast Asia&#x27;s top amateur polo player.&quot;It still feels surreal,&quot; said Romero.&quot;To be among the Top 25 is a huge honor—but it&#x27;s more than a personal milestone. This is a triumph for every Filipino who dares to dream, for a nation that never had a place on this field—until now,&quot; he added.Romero and his GlobalPort Polo Team made an impressive run in the Gauntlet of Polo, which comprised three tournaments: the C.V. Whitney Cup, the USPA Gold Cup, and the U.S. Open Polo Championship.They pulled off upsets of global powerhouses La Dolfina/Tamera and Park Place in the competition, and made it to the semifinals of the C.V. Whitney Cup. They fell just short in the quarterfinals of the US Open, losing 11–10 to La Dolfina/Catamount after leading by a goal with just 80 seconds remaining.&quot;For us, it wasn&#x27;t just about winning. It was about belonging -- belonging to the world stage,&quot; Romero said of their campaign. &quot;I believe we&#x27;ve earned that right.&quot;Romero believes that his rise in the rankings is &quot;just the beginning&quot; for Philippine polo.&quot;We are no longer just spectators—we are players in the arena. And I promise you, the Filipino will ride again,&quot; he said.
