Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/File</div>MANILA -- Freddy Gonzalez has concluded his tenure as the director of the country&#x27;s senior national football teams and the manager of the Philippine men&#x27;s national football team.The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) confirmed the development late Tuesday, after days of online speculation regarding the departure of another high-profile official from the organization.&quot;It has been one of the biggest honors of my life to be a part of this team and I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity. This was a very difficult decision to make and one that required much reflection and introspection,&quot; Gonzalez said in a statement sent by the PFF.&quot;Now is the time for me to focus on other pursuits and opportunities, both personal and professional,&quot; he added.Gonzalez followed Albert Capellas out the door, with the Spanish mentor having stepped down from his role as head coach of the men&#x27;s national team in late May -- just over a week before the Philippines played Tajikistan in an AFC Asian Cup qualifying match.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/othersports/2025/5/31/football-albert-capellas-steps-down-as-coach-of-ph-mens-national-team-2329">READ: Albert Capellas steps down as coach of PH men&#x27;s national team</a></div>Along with Gonzalez, assistant team manager Mikkel Paris also departed his role.PFF President John Gutierrez acknowledged Gonzalez&#x27;s contribution to the federation and thanked him for his service to Philippine football.&quot;We are grateful for Freddy’s dedication and contributions during his tenure with the PFF, most especially his efforts to advance our national team programs. We truly thank him for his service,&quot; he added.Gonzalez is credited for helping inject an influx of young talent into the national team. He was the manager of the squad that reached the semifinals of the 2024 ASEAN Championships and helped steer them to a strong start in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.&quot;I want to thank all of the players for their sacrifices and commitment to the team. They all have changed the culture of the National Team. In such a short time, they have made a difference in Philippine football, for the better. I am looking forward to seeing them become a force in Asia, and will be rooting for them from the sidelines,&quot; said Gonzalez.Meanwhile, Gutierrez said the federation &quot;remains fully committed to building upon the foundations laid for Philippine football.&quot;He also sought to assure the national team players that they will follow the framework that Gonzalez had put together for the team.&quot;We are dedicated to providing every available resource, and with the support of football stakeholders, we look forward to continued progress and success for our national teams in the months and years ahead,&quot; he said.The PFF said it will soon make an announcement on the leadership of the national teams moving forward.
