Photo from PFF.MANILA – The Philippines Under-16 boys national team made history after being crowned the 2025 Lion City Cup champions in Singapore.</div>The young squad secured its first-ever international championship in the 29th edition of the Lion City Cup on Sunday.The U16 team completed their undefeated run with a dominant 3-1 victory over Cambodia at the Jalan Besar Stadium.  Aarran Long scored two goals for the Philippines in the final match, ending the tournament as the Philippines&#x27; top scorer with three goals. Francis Poticano joined the scoring party to help seal the historic win for the country.The national squad, which topped the standings with seven points, was crowned champions after Singapore beat Hong Kong 4-1 in the final match.The Philippines earlier defeated hosts Singapore (2-0) and settled for a draw against Hong Kong (1-1) thanks to the heroics of Long and goalkeeper Jaime Sandejas.The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) said the victory marked a milestone in the country&#x27;s football program as this is the first international title in the U16 age group.  &quot;We salute our U16 youth team for bringing this honor to our country! Your victory brings not only pride and joy, but great hope to the young aspiring Filipino footballers from across our nation. Truly you have shown what a team can achieve with unity and solidarity. Mabuhay kayo!&quot; PFF President John Gutierrez said in a statement.&quot;The lessons gained from this tournament will push the Federation to go full throttle in empowering the country’s football development for the youth and children as early as three years old,&quot; he added.The Philippines U16 team was guided by head coach Tetsuya Tsuchida, assistant coaches Richard Leyble, David Asare, Anthony Albao, Juven Francisco, and PT Mayon Francia.&quot;We thank and congratulate our coaching staff and team management, as well as the parents and supporters who all worked hard for the success of this team. To the RFA’s [Regional Football Associations] where these players come from, congratulations too, this is your legacy. With you, we will continue to endeavor to discover more talented players from the various RFA’s who can join our national squads,&quot; Gutierrez said.
