Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/FileMANILA — Alex Eala soared to a new career-high in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, with the Filipina star climbing to No. 31 on Monday.</div>The 20-year-old previously reached a career-best No. 40 and was ranked No. 47 just a week ago. Her latest rise came after a quarterfinal finish at the Dubai Tennis Championships.There, Eala stunned World No. 8 Jasmine Paolini in the Round of 32, 6-1, 7-6 (5).Eala will look to build on her surge as she gears up for the upcoming WTA 1000 tournaments. She is expected to compete in the main draw of Indian Wells and the Miami Open.The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells is scheduled from March 4 to 15, while the Miami Open will be held from March 17 to 29.In Indian Wells, top players such as Paolini, Mirra Andreeva, Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova, Elina Svitolina, and Victoria Mboko are expected to see action.
