Yuichi Yamazaki, AFP/File</div>MANILA -- The Philippine men&#x27;s football team has secured its qualification to the 20th Asian Games, set for September this year in Aichi and Nagoya, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) announced on Monday.POC President Abraham &quot;Bambol&quot; Tolentino confirmed that with the PMNFT&#x27;s inclusion, the Philippines&#x27; delegation to the Asiad is now at 443 athletes.The Philippine women&#x27;s national football team had previously made the cut for the competitions scheduled for September 19 to October 4.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/othersports/2026/6/9/ph-qualifies-6-modern-pentathlon-athletes-to-asian-games-tolentino-2109">READ: PH qualifies 6 modern pentathlon athletes to Asian Games -- Tolentino</a></div>&quot;The minimum goal is to do better at these games,&quot; said Tolentino, with Filipino athletes looking to improve upon their haul of four gold medals, two silvers, and 12 bronzes in the previous edition in Hangzhou.The Philippines had a record 524 athletes in the 1994 Hiroshima games and 391 athletes at the Hangzhou edition in 2023.The entire delegation—coaches and officials included—could reach 700 with gymnastics still confirming the qualification of five athletes in artistic events.Filipino athletes are competing in 38 out of the 47 sports programmed by the Aichi-Nagoya organizers, who set quotas mostly in individual and combat sports because of the hosts&#x27; limited capacity to accommodate big delegations.The men&#x27;s football team qualified after India withdrew.&quot;We&#x27;re next in line so we got the slot,&quot; Tolentino said.Football in Aichi-Nagoya will feature 16 squads in the men&#x27;s division and 12 in the women&#x27;s side with the teams allowed to field 18 to 22 players. The tournament will be an under-23 affair, with squads allowed a maximum of three overage players.
