Rom Anzures, ABS-CBN News.MANILA — As Alex Eala embraces her role in representing the Philippines on the global stage, the Filipina tennis sensation is also taking on the responsibility of helping further grow the sport in the local scene.</div>The 21-year-old star recently made history for the country, becoming the first player from the Philippines to advance to the third and fourth rounds of a major in the Open Era.However, Eala said that achieving milestones like these and becoming an ambassador for the sport were once unimaginable to her.&quot;When I was small, that was not even in my realm of ideas,&quot; said Eala during Tuesday&#x27;s press conference with BPI in Makati. &quot;The fact that I&#x27;ve grown so much, and to be in the position where I think about that, is really great.&quot;Aside from her recent Wimbledon breakthrough, Eala has also won medals while representing the country, capturing gold in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games and bronze in the singles and doubles events of the 2023 Asian Games.And as Eala continued to make her mark, the sport has also grown astronomically in the country, and she said that this is a victory that she cherishes most.&quot;One thing that fills my heart whenever I come back is when people tell me that it&#x27;s so hard to play now, it&#x27;s so hard to get courts,&quot; she said.But to continue this progress, one way to further grow the sport locally is to make it more accessible.&quot;I think we have to go step by step,&quot; she said. &quot;And the first step would be to have more courts, and then we&#x27;ll see it from there.&quot;
