George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News/File.MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is wrapping up its investigation into alleged irregularities involving the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC), with NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag saying the agency expects to complete its investigation report within the next few days.</div>Matibag said the NBI has already gathered substantial evidence and coordinated with other government agencies that also released funds to PHISGOC. “Marami na kami nag-gather na mga ebidensya. Alan Peter Cayetano introduced himself as chairman of PHISGOC, despite documents from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reportedly not listing him as part of the organization’s board. “Merong mga documents na showing that he is introducing himself as the chairman of PHISGOC. That is something na kailangan magbigyan ng linaw dahil lumalabas sa dokumento na galing sa SEC, hindi siya kasama sa board ng PHISGOC,” he said.Matibag said Cayetano may be asked to submit to questioning if necessary, but the NBI will first allow PHISGOC officials to appear before the agency and complete the necessary steps in the investigation.The NBI director added the investigation report could be completed within three to five days, after which the agency will determine whether there is sufficient basis to file the necessary charges. “Baka tapusin namin yung investigation report in the next few days. So we can file the necessary charges na kinakailangan kung meron man. In the next few days, three to five days siguro,” he said.PHISGOC was the private organizing body tasked with organizing the Philippines’ hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019. The Games were held in various venues across the country, with the government providing funding and support for the country’s hosting.The NBI probe is examining alleged irregularities involving funds released for the SEA Games and transactions connected to PHISGOC, including the participation of various government agencies that provided funding. The investigation is also looking into the roles of individuals associated with PHISGOC and whether government funds were properly utilized.The NBI said it will determine possible criminal or administrative liability based on the evidence gathered and the findings in its final investigation report.
