PVL: Lyann de Guzman says 'not expecting' her Top 4 selection in Draft

MANILA – Ateneo de Manila University's Lyann de Guzman was surprised when she was called as the number four overall pick in the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft on Sunday at Novotel Manila in Quezon City.

De Guzman chose to take the leap to the pros, foregoing her final year of eligibility in the UAAP.

More than the surprise is De Guzman's happiness of making it to the PVL.

"Siyempre, I’m very happy kasi hindi ko rin naman ine-expect na top four makakapasok ako," she uttered.

There, she will be playing with ex-teammates Jaja Maraguinot and Jaycel Delos Reyes and former opponents in the UAAP such as Lucille Almonte, Lycha Ebon, and Krich Macaslang.

"I’m really excited to play with the team since 'yun nga mostly half of the team naging teammates ko na."

She also expressed excitement in going under the tutelage of Italian mentor Ettore Guidetti as well as another foreign coach Sergio Veloso.

"Siyempre, very honored ako na maging coach ko sila coach Ettore [Guidetti], sila coach Sergio [Veloso] kasi very different talaga siya -- 'yung mga systems nila, how they coach, and for me it’s another opportunity na mag improve pa 'yung skills ko," she said.

"Actually I can see like a lot of improvements din sa team na ito, siyempre bago rin 'yung team mga ilang years pa lang sila. Definitely excited na matutunan din 'yung bagong system and of course, maibigay ko rin 'yung kung anong natutunan ko kay coach Sergio," she added.
