UAAP Media.</div>MANILA (UPDATED) — University of Santo Tomas is on a roll in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball, recovering in time against Ateneo de Manila University to notch its third straight win.Angge Poyos led the way with 25 points, 11 receptions, and five digs as the Golden Tigresses defeated the Blue Eagles, 21-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-12, in their second-round match at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.Poyos fired 22 attacks and added three blocks, as the España-based hitters improved to five wins in eight games, but the Most Valuable Player (MVP) frontrunner insisted that there are still many things that need to be cleaned up to sustain their surge.“Marami pa kaming hindi nailalabas,” said Poyos, whose team committed a third of their 18 total errors in the first frame. “Yung connection from setter to spiker, so polishing pa ng galaw.”Fortunately, Regina Jurado, who had 20 points and 21 digs; Jonna Perdido, who added 11 points; and Avril Bron, who chipped in seven, regained their footing and stepped up in time in the fourth period.Knotted at six, the Tigresses went on a nine-to-one surge, capped by a Bron ace and a Perdido block for a 15-7 lead.Bron and Perdido continued their onslaught to further extend the advantage, eventually setting up Poyos’ game-winning block on Ysa Nisperos.In addition, Cassie Carballo orchestrated the offense with 22 excellent sets, while team captain Detdet Pepito finished with 13 digs and one excellent set.On the other hand, Ateneo absorbed its seventh loss in eight games, spoiling Ana Hermosura’s 13 points, 12 digs, and nine receptions, as well as Zel Tsunashima’s nine points.The Blue Eagles also committed 23 errors and converted just 13% of their attacks, compared to UST’s 30% efficiency.
