UAAP Media.</div>MANILA (UPDATED) — University of Santo Tomas scored a crucial win as the UAAP Season 88 women&#x27;s volleyball race tightens, defeating University of the Philippines to return to the win column.The Golden Tigresses overcame the Fighting Maroons, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19, in their Sunday afternoon match at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City to improve to mark their eighth victory in 13 matches.Leading UST was Angge Poyos, who finished with 25 points, 11 digs, and eight receptions, while Regina Jurado added 17 markers, eight digs, and the finishing points that denied UP a chance to extend the match.The victory keeps the Tigresses in fourth place in the standings, a full game ahead of 7-6 Far Eastern University, with only one game left in their schedule.&quot;Alam naman nating super important ito para sa Final Four, so sinabi namin sa mga bata na bakit hindi pa natin i-grab itong opportunity na ito, para maka one-step ahead kami sa FEU,&quot; said UST deputy Yanni Fernandez.A win by UST in its next match against National University, or a loss by the Lady Tamaraws against Ateneo de Manila University, will seal the Tigresses&#x27; Final Four berth.If both teams wind up with identical 8-6 records, a playoff will be needed to determine which team advances to the postseason.On the other hand, Nina Ytang, Irah Jaboneta, and Joan Monares have now concluded their collegiate careers as the Fighting Maroons absorbed their ninth loss in 14 games.Ytang had 19 points to lead State U, while Jaboneta added 16 points, 17 receptions, and 11 digs. Monares, meanwhile, was still sidelined due to her back injury.
