Volleyball World</div>MANILA -- The Alas Pilipinas Girls fell to the battle for 13th to 16th places in the FIVB Volleyball Girls&#x27; U17 World Championship after a straight sets loss to Japan, Saturday at the Parque Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile.The Alas Girls showed great fight against the second-ranked team in the world, but Japan came away with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-16 triumph.Japan moved on to the playoffs for ninth to 12th places, while the Philippines dropped into the battle for 13th to 16th.The result set up a rematch against Venezuela, which absorbed an 8-25, 21-25, 16-25 sweep against Poland in their own playoff match.The Alas Girls can move to the playoff for 13th place or drop to the battle for 15th spot depending on the result of their match against Venezuela.&quot;Focus is on rest and recovery, we put the loss behind us and it&#x27;s on to the next match,&quot; said team manager Karl Chan, who called the shots for the Philippines against Japan with head coach Edwin Leyva sidelined by a stomach bug.Caera Celis continued to lead the Philippines in scoring, delivering 16 points on 12 attacks, three blocks and an ace.
