Volleyball WorldMANILA — The Alas Pilipinas Girls closed their FIVB Volleyball Girls Under-17 World Championship campaign with a 21-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-22 victory over Czechia in the 15th-place classification match on Sunday at Parque Estadio Nacional.</div>Led by Caera Celis, Xyz Rayco, Jhaynna Bulandres, Irish Mahinay, and Khaira Manzano, the Philippines secured its best-ever finish in a volleyball world championship by reaching the Round of 16.“We learned a lot from every game, even when we made mistakes,” Celis said, as the Alas Girls surpassed the Alas Men’s 19th-place finish at the 2025 world championships. “But the victories were for sure the most fun we had here.”Celis led the Philippines with 25 points against Czechia and averaged 18 points per match throughout the tournament. She finished with the third-highest total score in the tournament at 162 points and ranked fourth in total attack points with 141.Rayni Merab Mondesi Arias of the Dominican Republic led both categories with 217 attack points and 235 total points.Rayco, meanwhile, matched the ninth-best total in the tournament for successful receives with 38 while averaging 9.33 points per match. Nadeth Herbon had 33 successful receives, tied for 14th-best in the tournament. Chinese Taipei’s Ting-yi Chen led the field with 88.Herbon, who played outside hitter twice while taking the libero role in the other matches, ranked 11th in digs with 95. Peru’s libero Vannia Giordana Adrianzen Ocrospoma led the tournament with 166.Mahinay recorded 15 aces, matching the sixth-highest total in the tournament. Italy’s Beatrice Scalzotto led the category with 23.The United States won the gold medal after beating Turkiye, 25-23, 25-11, 25-23, in the final.
