Arnolfo Teves Jr. noong Hunyo 30 na naglalayong palitan ang pangalan ng paliparan na NAIA at gawin itong “Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport.”</p><p>“It is more appropriate to rename it to the person who has contributed to the idea and execution of the said noble project. This project was done during the time of the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.,” ayon kay Teves Jr. sa kanyang introductory note ng panukala.</p><p>“It is more appropriate to bear the name that has contributed… in our country to make the Philippines a center of international and domestic air travel, who has instituted and built or conceptualized the project,” dagdag ng mambabatas. </p><ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/07/05/22/congressman-wants-naia-renamed-after-marcos-sr">Congressman wants NAIA renamed after Marcos Sr.</a></li></ul><p>Pero ayon sa mismong <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20220116010312/https://www.miaa.gov.ph/index.php/about-miaa/history-of-miaa">website</a> ng Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), 1953 nang matapos ang “international runway and associated taxiway” ng paliparan, samantalang noong 1961 naman natapos ang control tower nito. Apat na taon pa ang nagdaan bago maluklok si Marcos Sr. bilang Pangulo. </p><p>Sa isang panayam ni Teves Jr. sa ANC noong Hulyo 6, sinabi niya ang dating pangulo daw ang “nagpagawa” ng paliparan. </p><p>“Bakit s’ya ipapangalan sa tao na binaril doon sa airport?” dagdag pa ni Teves.</p><ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/amp/spotlight/07/06/22/teves-defends-proposal-to-rename-naia-after-marcos-sr">&#x27;Wala nang bisa &#x27;yung EDSA&#x27;: Teves defends proposal to rename NAIA after Marcos Sr.</a></li></ul><p>Rehabilitasyon at pagpapaunlad ang naging kontribusyon ni Marcos Sr. sa paliparan. </p><p>Sa pamamagitan ng <a href="https://www.officialgazette.gov.ph/1972/03/03/executive-order-no-381-s-1972/">Executive Order 381</a> noong 1972 ay iniutos niya na paunlarin ang mga terminal buildings at mga kaugnay na navigational aid at communications facilities nito. Naisakatuparan ang proyekto sa pamamagitan ng US$ 29.6 milyon na utang sa Asian Development Bank na katumbas sa nasa P190.48 milyon noong mga panahong iyon. </p><p>Sa pamamagitan naman ng <a href="https://www.officialgazette.gov.ph/1987/11/27/republic-act-no-6639/">Republic Act 6639</a>, na naisabatas noong Nobyembre 27, 1987, napalitan ang pangalan ng paliparan at naging Ninoy Aquino International Airport o NAIA bilang paggunita kay dating senador Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. na pinatay noong 1983 sa tarmac nito. </p><div><strong>— With research from Adrian Kenneth Halili, ABS-CBN Investigative &amp; Research Group</strong></div><div><em>ABS-CBN News is part of the Philippine Fact-Checker Incubator Project (PFCI) and #FactsFirstPH.
